Recruiting Profile: Trent Korb-Boedicker (Max, 2021)

One of Trent Korb-Boedicker’s personal goals for the 2020-21 season is to become elite.

After coming off a strong junior season where he averaged 14 points per game, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals, Korb-Boedicker is confident heading into the offseason.

“I want to be elite next season. Among the best of the best,” the Max guard said earlier this week.

“To do that, I need to work on my defense. That will create more opportunities to score. I’ll also be working on a lot of new moves and footwork.”

Max finished 4-18 last season and has been at the bottom of Region 5 for the last handful of years. Korb-Boedicker wants to change that.

“I believe that isn’t because of lack of talent, but lack of teamwork,” Korb-Boedicker said about the Cossacks’ struggles.

“I’ll be planning multiple scrimmages with my team that way we understand how to play together. I want to go to regionals next year and possibly state.”

Max was competitive in a handful of games in 2019-20 as they lost six games by 13 points or less. A big reason why was Korb-Boedicker keeping his team in games.

He scored 25 points in a 60-52 loss to Turtle Lake-Mercer/McClusky and finished with 21 points in a loss to Washburn. He also scored 17 points in a 55-46 District 10 win over Center-Stanton and shot 44.1 percent from the floor this past season.

But for four games in 2019-20, Korb-Boedicker’s playing time was limited after dealing with pneumonia. He said his season stats would’ve been higher if it wasn’t for that hiccup.

“I was limited to one quarter for four of my games that factored in quite a few lower scoring games,” he added.

Korb-Boedicker is a talented true point guard with a high basketball IQ, a great shot from beyond the 3-point arc and he has the ability to get to the rim like few Class B student-athletes can.

He said he believes his strengths lie both on and off the basketball court.

“I’m a leader on my team, so I make sure everyone on my team is always in the right headspace and ready for the game ahead,” Korb-Boedicker added. “Whether (that) means helping them with school or helping get through difficult times.”

“My best attribute is probably my ability to drive past defenders or create my own space. … and I strive to get my teammates involved in the game.”

As far as his weaknesses go, Korb-Boedicker said he needs to work on his defense and post play this offseason.

“I am a guard, but I believe every guard should know a few post moves should they end up on the block,” he added.

Korb-Boedicker has a goal of playing at the college level and has been invited to some individual camps already. But he’s focused on getting his name out there right now.

“As far as what I’d like people to know, I want them to know that I’m only going to get better, and I’ll be a name to look out for,” he added.
